This was the first project I completed during my final semester of 3D art at FIEA. It is a reconstruction of an existing game object - the holographic globe from the game "Evil Genius 2." This was a fairly sizable project because, in addition to the usual modeling and texturing tasks, I also had to create special materials for the holographic components of the prop. Besides the main material for the table (which was a fairly complex beast on it's own, with all the controls on the table), there are four special materials to create the various effects:
- The projection at the base of the globe has specially made translucency and a simple panner effect to make it look right.
- The globe itself has similar translucency to the projection, and a panner of its own with the scanlines running on it.
- The rotating ring around the globe is a plane model with a rotating animation on it to control the color and transparency of the design.
- The three computer screens on the table have a simple rotating material to recreate the radar screen effect.
Altogether, the model is a very interesting piece, with a lot of fun detail and subtle environmental motion. For a week by week break down of how the model was developed, visit the following posts on my FIEA art blog:
